Reishi and the Inflammatory Response

Most of what is written comes from the laboratory rather than from humans. Reishi is not an anti-inflammatory and is not a substitute for treatment.

Potency

Why beta-glucan is the number that matters

Beta-glucan is the main active compound studied in medicinal mushrooms. Most mushroom supplements worldwide do not state its content at all — we do, for each extract separately.

The test is performed on the finished extract and not on the raw material, so the number reflects what is in the bottle. Mycelium grown on grain is mostly starch, which is why it reaches far lower values.

Purity

What we looked for and did not find

Lead, arsenic and mercury — not detected in any of the mushrooms, by ICP at an external laboratory.

Pesticide residues — no active compound quantified in a 610-compound screen, per the European standard.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) — below the limit of quantification in all of the mushrooms.

Transparency

The full certificate, not a summary of it

We publish the signed laboratory report in full for every extract — with its report number and sample code, so it can be verified against the laboratory itself.

Questions people ask before buying

Is reishi anti-inflammatory?

Not in the sense that an anti-inflammatory drug works. What is studied is gradual support, not treatment.

Does it help with arthritis?

Reishi is not a treatment for an inflammatory disease. A diagnosed condition requires medical follow-up.

Why do so many articles say it reduces inflammation?

Because most of them describe laboratory and animal research, not human research. The difference is fundamental.

When does inflammation require a doctor?

When there is persistent pain, swelling, fever or signs that continue over time.

Can I combine it with medication?

If you take prescription medication you must consult your treating physician before starting.

What is the dose, and how long does a bottle last?

The daily dose is about 1.4 ml. A 50 ml bottle lasts about 35 days of use, and a 100 ml bottle about 70 days.

Why reishi in particular

Useful inflammation and inflammation that got stuck

Acute inflammation is a healthy and necessary response. What is discussed here is chronic low-grade inflammation that continues without a real threat.

Most of the research is from the laboratory

A large share of what is written about reishi and inflammation was done in cells and in animals. Human research is far more limited.

The triterpenes require an extract

The triterpenes in reishi are not water-soluble, so a tea or a powder simply does not extract them.
